A Short Guide to Bahamas Fishing
There is simply something remarkable when you go out for fishing. The Bahamas, which is made up of 700 islands, has an apparently never-ending list of fishing possibilities for any discriminating fisherman.
Bahamas fishing can be classified into three main fishing types. For spin casting buffs, bone fishing is a highly enjoyable experience. Individuals who have more than enough patience for landing a good catch may favor taking their fishing on the reefs. On the other hand, deep sea fishing is perfect for folks who aspire to catch the largest fish possible.
The months of May, June and July are typically the best months to go fishing. Some fishes, like the wahoo for instance may be dominant starting November until March. On the other hand, barracuda and snapper can be easy to catch all throughout the year as well.
When going out for fishing, there are some regulations that you must strictly abide by in order to keep the numbers of the island's fish in good check. In order to fish, a permit must be secured from the Customs at Bahamas' entry ports. Anglers are only allowed to use six rods and only hook and line. Your catch is also subject to limits also. For example, limits are imposed on lobster and crawfishr to only six tails with size lengths being a minimum of six inches for every person all year round.
There is a bag limit of ten conchs for each person at any given time and only conchs with a nicely formed lip can be taken.
Any combination of kingfish, dolphin, and wahoo are also limited to six.
Meanwhile, fishing season is closed for stone crabs from June 1st to October 15th. Female crabs are strictly prohibited for harvest and the minimum size length is four inches. Exporting scalefish is llimited to twenty pounds while importing turtle is not allowed, even though eating turtle is acceptable. In Nassau, a two month time period starting the December 16th bans the landing, taking, selling or processing fresh Nassau grouper which helps to boost the commercial fishery of the Nassau.
Moreover, you are not permitted to go spear fishing in the island's national sea parks. Furthermore, you can only use a Hawaiian sling when spear fishing. The use of scuba gear, an air compressor, or any other gear to harvest fish and other marine life is strictly not allowed.
You can charter a boat if you want to go fishing by yourself or hire a captain to guide you to some great fishing spots. One thing is for certain, the tropical waters of the are home to some of the best sport fishing in the world.
