The World's Sailing Capital Abaco Bahamas
Someplace next to this long expanse of 120-mile vacant beaches and cays, lies a concealed location ideal for a good book and chilled champagne. The is home to breathtaking destinations for vacationers and one of the highly desirable places is the Abaco Bahamas.
The lively center of Abaco, which is the Marsh Harbour as well as Treasure Cay offer a substantial range of small-scale, family-run business villas and hotels. The nightlife is speckled and there are ample restaurants. The Treasure Cay, the Marsh Harbour and outlying cays are located with picture-perfect old-world villages and jewel-stoned white houses.
Compared to the nearby islands like Exuma, Nassau, and Eleuthera, the Abaco remained the vastly unexplored archipelago until the later part of the 18th century, as the non-Indian populace started to amplify. The first inhabitants arrived throughout the 1700's. The islanders in the present day are typically British Loyalty successors who escaped America after England's lost the revolutionary war. The accents of residents of Abaco even now chime of England and they are very pleasing to hear.
There are more than 100 miles of magnificent reef running the length of Abaco just waiting to be explored. If your desire is to stay on top and Snorkel, Abaco’s reefs come within a few feet of the surface where beautiful tropical fish and colorful corals abound. Other activities on Abaco include diving, snorkeling, kayaking, bird watching and dolphin tours.
To the western part of Abaco Island is the Hope Harbour town dominated by striped lighthouses, built by the British Imperial Lighthouse Service in the year 1863.
The village of Abaco Bahamas, positioned amidst a harbor and a gorgeous beach has perhaps 300 permanent dwellers and is reminiscent of a fishing village of New England rested in the tropical area. The island's main street is the Queen's Highway, which is eight feet wide, with no cars permitted passing along. The two town village docks are available for a harbor where gasoline can be bought. The village features its own hardware store, bank, drug store, liquor store and numerous gift shops and artist studios.
When you visit, do not miss the freshly made lime pie and Bahamian bread. Fresh fish can also be purchased at their fish market. The Man-O-War Cay, which was named after a bird, has been depending on shipbuilding for a livelihood. Some handmade boats have been handed over for generations.
Highly renowned as the sailing center of the globe, Abaco consists of Great Abaco, Little Abaco, and a number of neighboring islands spread around 120 miles. The village is located on the north most section of the island of and is considered the next largest island.
Whether you want to check out the reef and meet other vacationers, or find a secluded spot all to yourselves, Abaco, Bahamas, is the place for fun in the sun. You are sure to enjoy the people, history, events, and activities in Abaco.
