A marriage license is usually required before you can have your ceremony. Marriage licenses from your home country are not acceptable; only a marriage license is legally accepted. However, your marriage license is a legal document issued by the government of the and is therefore valid in your country. For a $100 fee, payable to the Registrar General’s Department, along with a notarized certification stating that you’re not married. Your personal pastor may assist in the wedding ceremony, however, local pastor is usually delegated to perform the actual wedding.
Couples planning a wedding must have stayed in the Commonwealth of the for a period of twenty-four hours before the wedding application date. If you are planning a Saturday wedding, you should plan on arriving in the no later than Thursday. The engaged couple should also be able to provide proof of this date with such evidence as their immigration card. You will also need other important documents before you can have a wedding; these include a valid passport, a certified copy of your birth certificate and a stamped card from the Immigration. If you are divorced or widowed you will also need a certified true copy of the original divorce decree or death certificate of spouse.
Eighteen is the required minimum age for couples to wed in the Bahamas. If one of the wedding party is not eighteen, then an affidavit of parental consent is required. Marriage of same sex couples is not possible in the Bahamas.
