Bahamas Scuba Diving

Diving is fun, it's a total blast and for those who are properly trained it is relatively safe. The offers some of the best scuba diving anywhere. The consists of 700 islands and more than 2,000 coral cays that boast of gorgeous pristine white and pink beaches and a reef that extends for more than 700 miles from the island of Andros to Long Island, which features world class scuba diving.

One of the most popular spots for diving in the is the water off the Coast of Andros Island. Freeport, Abacos, the Berry Islands, and San Salvador are also excellent places for scuba diving in the and are frequently visited diving spots. scuba diving trips can include outer island trips, reef trips, and trips to visit certain types of marine life. The marine life that you will experience while scuba diving in the is just as varied as the geography that you will encounter. Many of the scuba diving sites you will visit are frequented by Nurse Sharks and Caribbean Reef Sharks.

There are more than 100 miles of magnificent reef running the length of Abaco just waiting to be explored. These reefs are famous for their huge caverns and tunnels filled with laser-like rays of sunlight and are home to beautiful coral gardens, tropical fish, turtles, tarpon, eagle rays, sharks, and more.

While Andros Island (which has the third longest barrier reef in the world) has earned a reputation as the best place to dive in the Bahamas, great scuba diving for all skill levels can be found on almost every island. Eleuthera is known for a reef called Devil's Backbone, which have a good number of wrecks that divers should not miss exploring. Scuba diving in Nassau, Bahamas, is perfect for beginners due to the crystal clear waters of the shallow depths. Classes for scuba diving in the are available through any company specializing in scuba diving.

One of the most exciting scuba diving trips is the shark adventure. When the dive boat anchors at the customary feed site, the sound of the motor and of the anchor hitting the bottom is a virtual dinner bell for the sharks. This dive attracts primarily Caribbean Reef Sharks, fed either by hand or off the point of a pole spear.

The months of September and October are usually the best time for a scuba diving, although these months may have the greatest risk of hurricane occurrence. The most predictably good weather for diving is from April through June, when the winds are normally light and the hurricane threat diminishes. The water temperature in the averages around 80 degrees, making it an ideal haven for diving.

With so many dive sites to choose from, scuba diving will be a memorable experience that will be etched in the diver’s memory forever.
